Drug Intervention Services

For individuals and families needing intervention assistance

stopping drug addictionTo intervene is to come between two people or things to prevent further action or harm. Therefore, a drug intervention is the act or process of preventing someone from causing further harm to themselves and others by getting them to understand and accept help.

Drug interventions done properly end up with the addict agreeing to go to a drug rehab and get help and want to live a better life. An intervention is not a physically forceful action. It is a process of attempted reasoning with someone who is otherwise unreasonable. Sometimes leverage may be necessary, such as taking something else away until they get better, or possibly providing some type of reward when they have successfully completed a program.

Each person, family and situation is different though, and a professional interventionist can help guid you through this, either via phone consultation or in person. Contact us to find out more about getting a referral to an intervention specialist or our family intervention consulting services.

Intervention Myth

The addict must hit "rock bottom"

The term "rock bottom" is frequently used when discussing an addict getting into treatment and accepting help. Unfortunately, rock bottom usually means with nothing left on the street, in prison, or dead. It doesn't have to come down to that, and waiting for that to happen often means it's too late to help them. The whole point of an intervention is so that they don't have to hit that bottom and completely ruin the rest of their life.

While it is true that someone completely unwilling to stop using drugs has a very slim chance of getting rehabilitated right now, it doesn't mean that the person has to be jumping for joy that you're sending them to a rehab. There are degrees of willingness that can be assessed and points of agreement that can be found regarding the situation. You'd be hard pressed to find an addict jumping for joy to go to an inpatient treatment center, but the vast majority are sincerely thankful when they complete the program. That tiny amount of willingness to change his or her life is all it takes to get started.

Finding A Rehab Facility

A vital necessity before an intervention takes place

A common mistake when families perform their own interventions is confronting the addict without a specific program ready to take them for treatment. When doing an intervention, it is vital to be prepared to have a solution to the problem you are presenting to the addict, which in this case happens to be an effective rehabilitation center as the first step.
