Supervisor Training

Educating your managers about what to look for and what to do

supervisor trainingPart of the drug-free workplace certification requires two hours of supervisor training for the first year. Generally these two hours are split up into two different sections. The first one is about a drug-free workplace and the policy that your business is implementing. It also covers what to do when an employee tests positive for a substance and how to handle the situation. This includes referrals to substance abuse programs through the use of our employee assistance program.

The second part of the supervisor training is about how to spot different signs and symptoms of drug use and what those different types of drugs are, what they do, and why they're harmful.

The two hours of training can be scheduled for one day or two separate one-hour sessions.

Maintaining Certification

The continuation of supervisor training

In most areas, supervisor training drops from two hours to one per year in order to maintain drug-free workplace certification. Southern Health Care Resources can provide that yearly continuing education through additional live presentations, or even through educational newsletters for supervisors.

Although these are the minimum requirements, companies that are large and small who want to make a bigger impact with their drug-free workplace program should have multiple sessions throughout the year, and Southern Health Care Resources can develop a series of tailored presentations to fit the needs of your business. It may also be a good idea to have more than one presentation if turnover occurs in your management or supervisory positions.

Kowing your Drug Testing Policy

Drug-free workplace regulations require certain types of testing, but more can be done

You must conduct pre-employment, reasonable suspicion (for cause), post-rehabilitation and post-accident drug testing. Random and blanket testing are not required but allowed and recommended as long as the policy is in place to support it.

Southern Health Care Resources can help connect you with drug testing resources to meet the required needs, including U.S. Department of Health certified testing facilities.
